I am going through kitchen renovation (bless my heart) and adding a kitchen island. The island will have a small bar sink.

My main sink drains into the main drain pipe inside kitchen wall and I will not have access to tap into that.
I know mostly how to drain kitchen island from the articles (http://www.rd.com/19540/article19540.html)
I do have access to hot/cold water
There is a vent pipe coming up in the wall I can have access to (2"). This is the vent pipe from the drain stack that washing machine standpipe drains to


Here is the question: Can I drain/vent into that vent using technique described in that article?

Thank you Hey Greg, I think that would work just fine. The only problem I hyae with discharging a kitchen sink, with a disposal into a washer line is the huge amount of cfrud, fiber and grease that will dump into the washer drain line. If I could I would install a 2" cle4anout tee on the stack near the washer. Here's a typical island sink rough in. Or if you don't wish to run the vent you could use a AAV, (see image) Good luck, Tom

There will be no food disposal on that bar sink. I am planning to use 2" drain/vent combo because the distance from the island to the vent in the wall is about 5'. One thing. In the picture you posted (from the article I linked) notice that they vent into separate vent pipe and drain into separate drain pipe. All I have is ONE vent pipe to tie to. I have Black and Decker Kitchens book that suggests simply bringing both pipes from the island to the drain/vent pipe and connecting them one above the other. I do not have much space between the floors to place pipes one above another. Is it OK to bring them to the vent side by side and then lower one (drain) and lift the other (vent) ? Alternatively, can I use ONE pipe for both drain/vent (imagine using just the lower pipe from the image) to bring my drain/vent to the vent stack?

Imagine using just the lower pipe from the image) to bring my drain/vent to the vent stack? The distance is fine but you would be building a "S" trap when the drain dropped under the floor line.
If space is tight then use a AAV inside the cabinet,(see image above) to vent the bar sink and drain to the stack vent in the wall. Good luck, Tom
