Hi,

I have been working in IL for the past year (from 1-Dec 05 ) on an L1 visa.
I don't need to pay taxes in the US since I get an allowance here ( I file my taxes in india)
But my company has given me some bonus money that does not fall into my tax exemption. So I need to declare that amount.

I would like to know what form I have to fill (confused between the 1040NR and 1040NREZ forms) and also what other forms I need to fill (if reqd). I asked the H&R block but they couldn't help me.
In addition to the 1040 form I will need to fill in State tax forms too (for IL)?

Thanks in advance

File Form 1040NR to declare the bonus money.

You will need to explain the exemption and cite the article of the tax treaty on page 5 of the Form 1040NR.

You will also need to declare the income on IL state tax return forms.

If you find this too much to handle, you can contact me at [email protected] to contract my services. I have references, including an Indian national currently located in Illinois.
