The whole story. Our AC unit started making a lot of noise last week. I changed what part I could see that was faulty. Noise continued. Had another component checked at electrical supply store. Now I can't drive any more, so the wife is acting as my driver and she hates hardware and auto supply stores, etc. Well, I finally called Sears and had a tech come out. He checked it, said it was fine and to get a new thermostat. OK, trip to Lowe's for the part. I put it in. Same noise. We're afraid to run the unit and it's 112 here near Las Vegas. My son had a friend come over and take a look at it. He bypassed a bad switch in the unit. It's fine now. I gave my son $100 to pay him with. Sears just called as a follow up on the service. "I blew it and told the guy that since he couldn't find anything wrong I had another tech fix the unit and to never call me again as I sure as Hell wasn't ever going to call them again."

Long story, but mow the wife is mad at me because I was rude to the Sears person on the phone. She thinks if I had been nice and explained what happened, I might have recovered the $ 90 Sears charged me.

Now I'm plenty ticked off ! 1- She's right 2- I screwed up again 3- It's damn hot again today, but the AC works.

What should I do now? Go to the Sears' website and complain, or just forget about it ?
I really would like to placate my wife. Any Ideas ?

Go to the Sear's website and complain --What do you have to lose ?

1. Call the sears guy back up and tell him you are sorry,
2. buy your wife some flowers or a new car and know if she is not happy you are not happy,
3. learn that all techs can be wrong at times and if that tech was not there to fix it, ( why did they not put the part on? ) if you told them OK you would do it, sears is not even at fault, since often you may have to try several things to find he real issue

The tech said the unit was OK. The unit was making noise by vibrating on the concrete pad. Well, the hammering sound was the fan attempting to start because the time delay switch was bad. The guy was an idiot. My wife even asked him about the noise as he was taking my credit card and he told her that it was normal. The problem is that we are older people and we don't know anything and survived by sheer dumb luck.
Well, my retirement doesn't allow for major purchases, so the wife gets flowers from my rose bushes, I guess.

My son's friend bypassed the part entirely. The new t-stat has a built in time delay, so the one at the unit is now redundant.

Just tell her she was right. Wives love to hear that. We rarely do from our husbands. You would be amazed at the power of these words, "honey, I am sorry, you were right."

Problem solved.

The money part, call and complain. Be nice about it, but explain the situation as you have here.
