OK... I know asked 100 times before... but could someone make sense of this for me. I just about get it... then all the colors start giving me nightmares and I loose it.

Here's what I have

Power source
Black and white wire

White connects to switch plates red wire
Black power source connects to white fan

Black fan wire connects to black switch plate
Blue fan wire connects to blue switch plate

Fan and lights dim at same time.
They should work independently.

Where have I gone crossed?

The 3 wires from the fan are white (common) The black (hot to fan) The blue (hot to light) This may be reversed and the blue is hot to the fan and the black hot to the light, but the wires should be marked F & L. The common should connect to the common in the box. The hot wire in the box should go to the switch and back from the switch to the fixture. For 2 switches, connect the hot wire to the wire that goes to the switches. Return a wire from one switch to the black wire of the fan. Return a wire from the other switch to the blue wire of the fixture.
If you only use 1 switch (using the pull cord of the fan for the light) Just splice both the black and blue wires of the fixture to the wire coming from the switch.

It's so confusing because the wires (hot and common) go to the fixture box. The hot (black) wire is spliced to a wire that goes to the switch (usually the white) and comes back to the fixture as a black wire. Houses are wired with romex. The wires are in an insulation making a cable. Sometimes they use a 3 wire cable for the switch wire, Then the black (hot) wire in the box is spliced to the red wire to go to the switch and returns with the black wire. I hope this helps

Undo the black wires in the fixture box. Be sure nothing can touch each other or the box itself. Turn the breaker on and check to see which wire is hot. Turn off the breaker. The other black and red wires in the box are switch wires. Connect one wire to the hot. This will make the switch hot. Now being careful, power up and check the remaining wires. Flip the switch and recheck. Now you've got the switch wires isolated. Tie in the fixture with these and you've got it.

I don't understand your post. What is a switch plate? What wires do you have coming from the ceiling?

Could U please show wiring diagram from existing wall light switch to get power to fan through NEW switch for fan... In other words, I'll end up w/2 switchs, one for existing light, & one for ceiling fan. It has a remote for speed/light. Thankx

I have a red, yellow, black, white wires in the switch housing and the old switch has 5 wires spots 1-2-3-4 and C . This is and old Hunter ceiling fan. The C has a black wire in it. I can't find the same switch. What are my options?
