I have an 8 month old morkie (yorkie/maltese)... he's a boy... I got him when he was 2 months old... he goes to the bathroom in the house on the pads he's really good with it... I take him outside too and he goes to the bathroom out there... but I was just wondering when will he start to lift his leg.. will he ever? I have went over to him lifted it up for him and he keeps it up as he goes to the bathroom but he won't do it by himself... is he not doing it because I took him away from his parents or other puppies to soon so he couldn't learn how to do it or doesn't know how... or is it something he will know how to do as he gets older.. im just curious.
Thank you to all that answer

Don't worry about how he does his business or the manner. As he gets older he will lift his leg. I had a female dog that lifted her leg to pee LOL. Sounds like that he is coming along just fine when all we hear about are puppies who won't go in the right place !
Just enjoy you time with your dog and don't sweat the little stuff.

Well, I also had male Sheltie who never lifted his leg. And it didn't make him less of a man dog... lol My Schnauzer on the other hand started lifting probably after 6-8 months.

My male dogs started lifting at about 8-11 months. As they get into their final years they often go back to squatting again. They don't usually need help, although I got a laugh trying to picture your participation! :) Just takes time.
