I have a maytag fridge model PTB1954GRW. I bought it 7 year ago. This morning when I woke up the freezer part is cool but not cold. The food is starting to slowly thaw. The fan is working in the freezer. Even the fridge section where is getting warmer.

I remember the fridge use to make to make a big noise during the day. There would be a clicking sound and the compressor would start. Then the compressor would turn off after a while. Now there is a clicking sound but the compressor does not start. Can someone know what is happening? I think the compressor is finished. Does anyone would know how much it would cost to get a new one

The problem can be caused by either a faulty compressor, or - worse - a freon leak that caused the compressor to burn out.
A compressor replacement is expensive.
A freon leak repair without compressor replacement is expensive.
A freon leak repair with compressor replacement is very expensive.
Best advice : replace the fridge. At 7 years that is not too bad...
