I have a Rheem Classic XIII Imperial Super High efficiency heat pump. Model # RPBD-025-1Z. My outside motor FLA0.8 has stopped working. This is a 2 zone unit. My downstairs unit has been making a zooming noise, almost like the fan is being stopped or retained from spinning by hand. I can hear the unit kicking in and have seen the relay properly working. My guess was that the motor run capacitor was damaged. For a while, before I changed the motor run capacitor, I was able to go outside, put a screwdriver between the grids and help the motor turn. The motor would then take full speed. Then, I took the unit apart and I noticed that the relay kept popping out, and I noticed cobwebs between the prongs on the motor run capacitor, I thought cleaning the motor run capacitor prongs, would fix the problem, but it only worked for a few hours. After realizing that the fan was no longer turning, I replaced the motor run capacitor, I am still able to turn the fan very easily with the tip of a screwdriver. Somehow, after replacing the motor run capacitor, the unit is still the same thing, and even worse. It makes a loud noise when it kicks in and the fan blade does not move at all on it's own, or with the help of the screwdriver. It will spin, but not stay turning. I did this by process of elimination. What should be my next step? Please help!

If you replaced the capacitor with the correct identical size as the old one and the motor will still not run correctly I would say the motor is defective unless the relay/contactor is causing a problem..

Remove motor and capacitor and take to a local electric repair shop for testing. Mark all wires so when you go to install the old one or a replacement new one the wiring will be simple.

If you replace the motor get a capacitor of the correct size for the new motor.
