Hi,

I have been shoplifting for about 1yr. But I never get caught. But I believe that my face have been caught a few times by the camera in the shop. Actually whenever I feel depression over my work or family. I will just shoplift. But after I do it, I am so scare that the police will come knocking on my house door. Will that really happen?? Will they be able to trace me to my house??

Here's a hard truth, if you keep shoplifting then you'll get caught eventually. Stealing is wrong and it's a crime, and admitting that you shoplift on the internet isn't the brightest thing to do either. My guess, you've been lucky so far, but your luck will run out sooner or later.

It doesn't even occur to you that it's immoral? Grow up, get a job, pay for what you want. Then there's no chance of you going to jail! Problem solved!

First it is wrong, it costs the store money. And is illegal.

Normally they will post your photo on their security notice, and the store security will arrest you when you go back into that store at some point. That is what is more likely to happen, but yes, they can do a john doe warrant with your photo and arrest you much latter if they find you.

Let's see. You shoplift, the store cameras have photos of your face, you wonder if they can identify you from your photo? That's why there are photos on drivers licenses - so the Police can identify you.

I'd say, yes, there's a really good possibility.

If you think you're depressed over home/family now, wait until you see how depressed you get in jail.

I own a store - how would you feel if I went into your house and stole from you every time I got depressed and that was my excuse - I'm depressed? Well, you're doing exactly that to my employees and me.

You should try and understand why you are driven to this sort of action on your part when you are depressed. Is it because you want to be punished more or harsher than you are already self-punishing yourself now? Jail is not fun - never was - never will be. For starters try sitting in your bathroom with the door closed for about 3 hours (no cheating) doing virtually nothing. Feel good? Of course not. Well, that's what jail is like except you will have someone telling you what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and if they don't like what you do, how you do it, or don't do it, you will be punished more. Sound great? Well, just keep shoplifting or stealing (both are the same you know) and pretty soon you won't have to imagine what jail is like from the comfort of your bathroom, you will be experiencing the real thing - only one problem though, you won't be able to leave when you're sick and tired of jail.

You must have some sort of wish to be arrested or detained. You are not a klepto as you only do this when you are depressed so if I were you I would see some sort of therapist about this problem while you still have a choice in the matter.

Well shoplifting from the same place twice is a worse idea than plain ol' shoplifting. Trust me, when you get caught it will blow hard.
However, if you were to return to a store where you had previously shoplifted to make a legitimate purchase then no one can do anything to you. However, they probably will recognize you and watch you ultra closely. Retail Loss Prevention workers need to be sure that you have pocketed something and never lose sight of you or they cannot approach you. So just because you haven't been aprehended does not mean they don't know and aren't watching and waiting.

Please stop. These companies are bullies when it comes to getting their money back. Your life will be made so much worse than it already is. Trust me.

The companies are bullies? Are you kidding me? He steals and the companies
Are the bullies, I think you've got that backwards.

If you want to do the crime than be fully prepared to do the time and pay the
Retribution. Last time I checked, stealing is against the law, I'm sick of people
Who steal getting a slap on the wrist or whining to us because they have to pay
When they get caught, boo hoo, here's a quarter, call someone who cares.

I hope the OP gets caught, and does some jail time, and has to pay, maybe then
He'll finally learn his lesson.

IF you're stealing because you feel bad, you might want too go into counseling.
Kleptomania is serious.
And as you seem to have realised that it doesn't make you feel better, just more scared (unless you enjoy the rush), you really ought to do something about stopping.
If you're officially recognised as a kleptomaniac, it will aid your defence if you DO get caught.
They CAN trace you, all it takes is for you to be recognised on camera.

One thing that has yet to be mentioned, is your family! I don't know if you are saying you have children, or if you are still living at home with your parents. If you have children, shame on you! What a wonderful example to set, and they could be taken from you. If you are talking about your parents, shame on you! Imagine their delight when they get a phone call from the police dept, and have to swallow their pride in front of friends and neighbors when they tell them that you are a convicted criminal!

You WILL be caught, and it's only a matter of time if you continue to do it! How dare you be the reason that the prices in the stores go up for the rest of us, while you are enjoying your latest lift! Quite frankly, I have a hard enough time with the prices as they are!

Please keep on shoplifting, so they can catch you! Then see what minimum wage job you can find, with your criminal record under your belt!

Get help!

You are traceable as long as the camera focus is good enough to see who you are. If you go into that store frequently then an employee will more than likely recognize you from the video or pics. Depending on what you are taking and the price of it will determine if you will actually be charged with anything. Most major stores do not prosecute under a certain amount. The police can by law come and arrest you for this... If you are that worried about it, take the stuff back that you have taken and admit it to the place. You may still get arrested but you may get a lesser charge then if the police knock down your door and make you go, either way you are in trouble...

The point is, the consumer is paying for whatever it is! It doesn't matter if it's a pack of gum! The price is passed onto the consumer! The stores needs to account for the loss they inccur because of these thieves! Then when the thieves are caught, the government has to pay the salaries of law enforcement to arrest them, and then possibly the price to house them. We pay for this, out of our pockets, with our taxes! Then with the money taken out for taxes, your paychecks get smaller, and the prices get higher!

Well you coming on here admitting the crimes you have been committing for a year. Is one way for you to get caught for sure. IP Address, can be traced and the cops will probably come knocking on your door when you least expect.
