Hi, I'm kind of new to this but my little girl had 2 guinea pigs, both female. I went to feed them earlier and discovered one of them had died. Is there anything I need to do for the other guinea as I know she'll be lonely without her pal?

Sorry to hear about your loss! :(

If you think the guinea pig will be lonely by itself, could you get another pig as a replacement companion? There are guinea pigs available for adoption at animal shelters and rescues.

Hi, thanks for replying. Was thinking about getting another pig but these were my first guineas and I'm not sure how she'd react to having a new pig introduced.

How old is your surviving guinea pig? If she's not too old I don't think it should be a problem, just make sure that the new pig is also female.

There is another expert on here, lilfyre, who is very active in a guinea pig rescue. I hope she comes on here and gives you some advice, too!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

Hi, she's almost 2 years old now. Went to another website to try and see if anyone could help. The guy I spoke to said it should be OK to get another pig seeing females get along better than males. He said to wait and see how the remaining pig gets on as she may do OK on her own but he also told me to watch out for some signs that she's fretting and then I should start thinking about getting her a new pal. Anyway thank you so much for your replies, I got to get to bed now as my daughter wants to be able to say goodbye to her little pig before she goes to school, not looking forward to that!! Thanks again for your help.

I'm glad you got the information you were looking for! I hope it all works out for you, should you decide to get a new pig!
