Hi all! I found this website and post as a result of a "lump behind my ear". I was hoping to get some answers.

I first got a golfball size lumpon my ear when I was 8 years old (18 years ago). I had it operated on and most of this "cyst" was removed. A similar problem came back but near the front of the ear (swollen). I was told that it couldn't be the same cyst as they don't move.

It would come and go and I still don't really know what causes it. A lump behind my ear also daily swells up and never really goes away. I can't sleep on the one side of my head and I often get headaches and neckaches.

I have seen many specialists and had a few CT scans and there isn't really anything any one can tell me. I guess I am lucky (for now) because it doesn't seem to be a tumor or cancerous, and for that I am very thankful.

I just wish there was someone who could tell me something I could do to reduce the pain and tell me what causes this.

Thanks for letting me vent. It's been a long 18 years.

If Doctors have ruled out all of the more serious possibilities, (lymph nodes, malignancies, etc), then it sounds like cyst or nodular acne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acne_vulgaris). Have you tried using astringents on it like Witch Hazel or Benzyl Peroxide? Vitamin B3 in gel form has also been shown to help reduce inflammation.

I suggest seeing a Dermatologist since your other Doctor has ruled out everything else.
