I have recently received a mini usb car charger from my uncle. When I plug it into my verizon wireless Razr (The v3m) it says "Unautorized Charger". The same thing happens when I plug it into my iPod car charger, iPod wall charger, and PDA car and wall chargers! When I used a friend's car charger (Bought from verizon) it worked without a problem.
I have four questioons:
1. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
2. Will it charge my phone?
3. Will it hurt the phone?
4. Why does VZW do this?
Thanks for any help!

If your phone is under warranty, and you damage it by using something other than a charger designed specifically for your phone, you could void the warranty.
Why not just get an original motorola charger for it?

Sorry, this is a motorola charger. Also the phone is out of warranty. If you want the full story message me.

Yeah, it can most likely harm the phone, the voltage or speed of charge might be different than your phone is meant to receive. Just go buy the home and car charger made for your phone.
If you use the wrong charger and it fries your phone you voided the warranty, so either spend 10 or 20 bucks (or whatever) on the real charger or possibly have to buy a new phone at full price some day soon.

Sorry Guys,
The car charger is a motorola designed for the Razr, and at home I usually use the charger that came with the phone.

Sometimes I read through the posts too quickly, now I see you say it is a mini usb charger?
Where would you plug that into your car anyway, and if it is a charger, why would you be plugging it into your other car and wall chargers?
I'm lost here, sorry, I'll leave this one to someone else to try to figure out.

Whoa, whoa, whoa,
By car carger I mean it plugs into the car's cigarette lighter and my phone plugs into the other end.
When I said plugging it into other car and wall chargers I meant the phone.
Hope this clears stuff up.

I have a Razr V3 and have used both without problems. The Razr has the ability to charge at 1 amp which is beyond the capabilities of USB. There is a handshake of sorts, I can't remember what that allows the charger to output 1 amp. There is basically a slow, medium and fast charging modes available. In some models they are not used. I got this info from the Razr schematics.
