I worked for a company for 17yrs and they told me my job was being fazed out one day and they had another job for me 30 miles further and 15k less a year. I left on a Friday and that Monday they hired someone else much less income then mine. This happened 2 weeks before my 60th birthday. Is that allowed by any law

If you can prove that this person was hired for the same job you were doing, you might have an age discrimination case. I would consult and employment law attorney.

That happened to a friend of mine - almost the exact circumstances. I don't know what he did about this as employers can seem to do whatever they want nowadays. I would definitely seek an attorney's advice on this one as you could have an age discrimination suit here especially since they gave you the spiel of your job was being phased out.

They may fire you for no reason but can not fire you for your age.
They could have just cut your pay on the existing job if they wanted to, would have be easier than transferring you.

A labor attorney may be worth the first visit anyway
