My washing machine is a top load Westinghouse, about 5 yrs old.

All of a sudden it won't agitate. The middle pin that goes down the middle of the agitating blade thing, is moving back and forth like it should, but it's not moving the agitating piece. It will fill, go through cycles and then spin water back out, without actually washing the clothes. I can take both hands and turn agitator back and forth easily, so it's not stuck.

I figured this out by finding soap streaks all over my clothes after they went through the dryer.

It all sounded like it was running a normal cycle... so I never suspected a problem until I realized there was undissolved soap still on clothes.

Anyone know what we need to do ? Laundry is piling up as I type,.

I hope you folks can help point us to what needs to be done. Keeping fingers crossed... Thanks in advance for your help.

Talk about a 'Desperate Housewife'... that's one whose household appliances are on the blink ! And you just thought it was a TV show... LOL

That brand of washer are commonly stripping the splines in the agitator replacement of agitator is the only fix!
