Hi All,

I have a new Rheem unit (6 months old) and since the hot weather really started, the TXV has gone bad two times within a week. I suspect that either we have a lemon, or most likely, the people who have installed it and repaired it have not done something correctly.

Could someone give me the possible problems that would cause a TXV to go out repeatedly like this?

Thanks,

Steve

The unit is still under warranty and should be repaired by the installer for free.

If it is a braze in valve it could have been overheated during the install. There could also be dirt/noncondensibles in the system. Add a liquid line drier right before where the liquid line enters the inside unit. This will trap and contaminants.

Note there were a few batches of TXV's that were defective from the factory. Your installer might have got one of those.
