Hello,

We had a new gas heating/ac unit installed this winter and a new compressor last year. When heater was installed the HVAC guys did the wiring on the thermostat.
We went to turn on our AC and can only get the inside unit working and no outside compressor, or the outside compressor, but no inside unit, depending on what setting we use on the digital honeywell thermostat.

The compressor and the inside fan will not come on together. The wiring is as follows on the thermostat.

Green is in g
White is in w
Blue is in y
Red is in r

The yellow wire is not connected. We did not do the wiring on the thermostat. It was done by an HVAC technician, but we did not test the AC this winter when they were here.

Not sure what to do, but it is 87 in my house right now and we are in the middle of a heat wave.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Check all fuses first.
Sounds like a low voltage wiring problem. Usually yellow lands on the Y at the thermostat. Your unit could be wired incorrectly but you need to trace the wiring to find out where the black wire goes. The black wire is usually not used in your set up.

If you paid for the HVAC guys services I would give them a call to see if they can shed some light on your problem.
