View Full Version : Drainage/Sewage issue

After tons of rain last night, our basement has flooded. The whole house smells like sewage and we are unsure which step to take first.

We have had issues with a couple of outside drains that would not want to drain properly and put a small amount of water on the floor some times. This issue is worse than we have ever seen it. Not only has one of the outsided drains not drained, we now have the drain in the water heater room that has backed up as well.

We knew that sooner or later the septic tank would needed to be pumped, but we felt we had at least a few more months to worry about that. Should we start with getting the tank pumped or would it possibly be what is wrong with the drains outside? I am just not sure who to call on Monday to get this taken care of.

Last question... the best thing to use to get the sewage smell out of the house now that there was the back up in the basement. I know of course to get the water off the floor and clean it up, but does one product work better than another?

I would call a septic tank company to pump the tank and check the drain field. I believe the septic tank overflowed because the drain field is so loaded up with water that it can no longer perculate and drain the liquid the tank sends it. Good luck, tom
