Please help. I cannot remember the name of this book.
I read it about 10-15 years ago, but do not think it was new then.
It involved a group of humans going out to colonize another world. Most of the humans were in stasis, with a small crew manning the ship. Somewhere along the line their was an accident, and the brains of all the humans in stasis were wiped. Something happened with the crew because what ended up happening is the one surviving guy brought some of the adult "children" down to the planet and raised them, until they were mature enough to help "raise" some others, which he brought out of stasis. This kept going for a while. The crewman ended up going to the ship and going in stasis, and over the years (many years) he became like a god, with the children and their generations expecting him to return someday.
I'll be darned if I can remember the book or the author... I've searched all the usual suspects, like Heinlein, Asimov, Drake, Pournelle, Niven, but can't seem to find it.
Any and ALL help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike
