I want to install a sliding glass door off the back of my house. It would be best to put it where I currently have a window. Only one problem, there is a vent centered directly below the window.

Correct me if I am wrong, I have two options

1.) Move the vent off to the side of the sliding glass window?
There is only 2 ft. of wall available on each side of the door opening.

a.) If I did option 1 this would make the vent pretty much in the corner of the room, would that effect heating of the room?

2.) Turn the vent into a floor vent?
This option would make me mess up my nice hardwood floors, which I really do not want to do. The vent would also end up being in a prime location for people to step on the vent when they walk in and out of the house through the sliding door.

I have a vent in my nice hardwood floor in front of the fixed half of my sliding glass door. Of course all the nice hardwood floors were covered with carpet when we moved in. Once you add the floor vent, likely it will be permanent, and you will never have to worry about patching the hardwood floor. Can you instal the sliding glass door so the fixed half is next to the vent you put in the floor?

I eventually removed the carpeting in the family room and refinished the hardwood floors. Great with a new puppy every year.
