Can a debetor take my car, I own a car worth maybe $5,000 which is paid for, this is my only means of transportation, can they take this from me?

What do you do when you have no assets, no money and are in debt? I don't even have money to file.

Some jurisdictions still allow the levy of personal property to settle a judgment.

They are few and far between.

Is it possible, yes, is it likely, no, unless this practice is still used where you live.

If you have not been sued yet, and a judgment has not been issued against you, then nothing can happen, until those two things happen.

PS. You are the debtor, it is the creditor who might take your car.

The no assets works to your favor as there is nothing for your creditors to levy or lien or to be liquidated during bankruptcy.
The no money works to your favor as there is nothing for your creditors to garnish or seize via judgement.

The no money to file can be solved by getting temporary job/second job, selling some of your "stuff", or eliminating cable/telephone/other services.

Car (value limit) and several thousand dollars worth of assets can usually be retained during bankruptcy.

In my state if you prove you need the car to get to work they can not touch it like that.
