Why does people get addicted to sex?

Sex can be beneficial to your health and absolutely necessary to a happy married lifestyle. I don't know anyone who is addicted to sex. In fact, being addicted to sex could be classed as an ailment the same as being addicted to alcohol.

"Sex addiction" is better understood as primarily masturbation addiction.

In the age of readily available porn in the household via personal computers, there has been a huge growth in porn/masturbation addiction among young men(and others too).

Being an addict is having some compulsive activity that causes unhappiness such as loneliness and inability to enjoyably relate, in this case, sexually with people.

One decides oneself if one is a masturbation addict. A test would be for an individual to give up porn and masturbation for 30 days on the first try... that would give a person a good idea if they were addicted. An addict would have a lot of trouble doing this... normal people have no trouble with this.
