Now I want to reinstall windows using my image backup disk and I can't . Can anyone tell me how to use the windows 98 startup floppy disk to get it done. I been told you can use it, But how? I've tried but no luck.

You can use the Windows 98 disk to install Windows 98. Be sure to copy all your important documents off the computer first. When you initiate the installation, it will detect Windows ME installed already and won't want to continue, you may have to reformat the drive to get it installed. It's doable, though.

You can buy another copy of Windows ME and reinstall it over your original ME.

Why not?

Without a ME installation CD, the Windows 98 boot floppy is of no use unless a copy of the ME installation files were saved to the hard drive and the drive is still functional.

With the ME CD, the Windows 98 boot floppy's config.sys and autoexec.bat files can be edited to start the necessary setup.exe executable on the CD in the \Win9x folder. You may also need to add the real mode device driver for your CD-Rom drive to allow the CD-Rom drive to work if the generic driver on the floppy doesn't work with your drive.

All that said, Windows ME was so hideous, I would buy copy of Windows 2000 or XP instead if forced to purchase something. Even Windows 98 SE...

ME is just a tarted up 98se with more problems, neither of them are any good, go with 2000 if your computer can't run xp and at least they still going to roll out updates until 2010 for it
