My central air conditioning unit is blowing warm air. I was told that there was freon in the unit. It is possible that I need a complete new unit or could it be something else that could be fixed?
Thanks in advance for you help.

Dear juliann94

There are a couple of checks you can do, but if equipment is faulty, you require the services of a handyman or a real professional repairman.

Check the thermostat : is it set properly?
Check the compressor : is it running and getting hot?
If running but not hot you have a freon leak.
If not running the compressor could be faulty or another electrical fault may cause the problem.

Also possible : can the heated gas cool down sufficiently? Sometimes dust covers and/or blocks free airflow over the radiator panel. Is the fan running ? (if you have a split level unit).

Open the unit(s) and check what is going on, and what is not...

The thermostat is set properly and the compressor is running. I didn't leave it on too long to see if it is getting hot. I had a repairman come out and he said there was freon in the unit and that I needed a new compressor. Should I just take his advice or get a 2nd and 3rd opinion?
Thanks

A compressor can run and sound normal but if the valves are out or a shaft broke it spins freely not moving refrigerant.
