Hi I am 36 weeks and 4days pregnant and I have been dilated (the last I knew at 3cm and 60% effaced) since Thursday. Yesterday I started to experience intense lower back pain occasionally. I only got 3 hours of sleep last night, even after taking tylenol, for the back pain and I ended up on all 4s for over an hour. I have tried everything from baths to medicine and nothing is working. The doctors told me to come back when the contractions were stronger and I have been waiting for it to hurt in my uterus, but when I have a contraction, my stomach is like a rock and my back is aching unbelievably.I do feel it in my pelvis too, but the pain does not stop between contractions, it just makes it feel more sore than before. It is right above my tailbone. I am getting extremely exhausted and cannot find a comfortable position. Has anyone had this and if so was it back labor because that is all I can think of??

You have had increasing pain now for over 24 hours. The last I posted on a similar question of yours was to go to the hospital if the pain increases or stays persistent. The pain is too persistent to not be checked and increased.. Again, even if they send you home, so what, you'll know then it's OK for another day and if tomorrow comes and the pain is regular and returns you go again. The hospital doesn't care and they see so many people after your child is born they soon forget how many times you were there, nor do they really care. That is there job and they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't like it! Good luck.

Well I called my doctor and I think she's crazy... she said it doesnnt sound like back labor and to wait it out because they are going to send me home anyway... and I told her that I was dilated and effaced to 3 on Thursday at exactly 36 weeks and she said that was normal... so she told me not to go, but I still think I should. She usually will tell me to go in and then call over to the hospital and let them know I am coming... should I go against what she says and go anyway??

If you would feel more comfortable going in and getting checked, then do so. It is not the norm to be dilated to 3 cm at 36 weeks. Certainly it can happen, but the vast majority of women will not be at that stage at 36 weeks. As was said, the worst that can happen is that they send you home again... worth it if it will give you some peace of mind.

Thank you all for the advice... I went in to L&D to be checked and they told me that I hadn't dilated anymore, but an ultrasound showed them that the baby was laying on my spine, so I was in back labor... the doctor told me some things I could do to get him to move into position and he said it would speed up the process once he does. Hopefully not too much longer... thanks to all!
