I was just contacted a few months ago from my student loans stating that I have to pay 245.00 a month or they will start garnishing my wages. I can't afford that amount and they don't seem to want to work with me on it so that I can pay the amount I can afford. I'm a single mother of two kids and I live paycheck to paycheck. I they garnish my wages I will end up homeless and no where to go. Can they do this? How do I stop this from happening? Please help!

You borrowed the money, you have to pay it back.

There is no way to eliminate this debt, other than paying it.

If the amount you owe, that remains unpaid, results in the $245 monthly payment, that is what they expect.

Perhaps you should have waited a while to start a family.

The lender had nothing to do with the decisions you have made, that have put you in this position.

They just expect you to pay as you promised.

Please contact your congressman immediately; in addition, start looking through your phone book for a local attorney who is competent in the bankruptcy area. There may not be a way to affect the payment on the student loan, but you may be able to reorganize your other debts and budget.
