I'm just curious to see what other people find to be the most powerful, meaningful, moving, or just plain best lyrics. I think I am a bit more into music than most (I have been called obsessed :o ) and I figure there has to be more like me on here :)

how about, the Smiths.
The hand that rocks the cradle.
Please don't cry
For the ghost and the storm outside
Will not invade this sacred shrine
Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie
If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
To tease, torment, and tantalise
Wavering shadows loom
A piano plays in an empty room
There'll be blood on the cleaver tonight
And when darknesss lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Ceiling shadows shimmy by
And when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey
There's sadness in your beautiful eyes
Oh, your untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes
My life down I shall lie
Should restless spirits try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
I once had a child, and it saved my life
And I never even asked his name
I just looked into his wondrous eyes
And said : "never never never again"
And all too soon I did return
Just like a moth to a flame
So rattle my bones all over the stones
I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns
Oh, see how words as old as sin
Fit me like a glove
I'm here and here I'll stay
Together we lie, together we pray
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Mine
Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy
You're - you're mine
And your mother she just never knew
Oh, your mother...
As long... as long... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
As long... as long... as long as... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
Oh...

Ill take a stab at this too. Not sure if anyone has heard of these, but since my taste seems to change everyday, this is just my "current mood" songs...
YouTube - Story Of The Year - Wake Up (http://youtube.com/watch?v=TpsDsS3KFN8)
We are alive, for a moment,
One second in the great abyss of time.
All the bleeding, all the hate just one blink of an eye.
All the conflict - it visits dire pain on human life.
Are we missing what it means to be alive??
One by one the pieces fall.
Until our pride defeats us all,
Or we learn to live without it.
That's one for my political/anarchist side I suppose? Who knows, my own mind confuses me :)
One more for now... an old time favorite...
YouTube - Crying Out by Shinedown (http://youtube.com/watch?v=HBoccTEOtmU)
Don't use a weakness.
Don't change the subject.
Don't ask the questions if you fear the answers.
You look distorted, lets make you clearer.
Lets flip the switch and use the smoke and mirrors.
Reinvent yourself today, Reinvent your world today.
Not sure what it is about this one, I just love the line about not asking questions if you fear the answers. That and the whole illusionist feel of it.
After re-reading that I realize that I lose a lot of the meaning when the song is taken out of context haha. I guess the music/singing style puts more emphasis on it, so I added YouTube links if anyone is bored/interested.

Geez biggie there are so many , one that really springs to mind for me are the words to this song because it came out about the same time my father passed away , I have to admit it brings a tear whenever I hear it but a great song.

This song it nice... YouTube - What hurts the most - Rascal Flatts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJEs1TyzL_A) [the video is really nice]
What Hurts The Most Lyrics
Artist(Band):Rascal Flatts
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don't bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let 'em out
I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I'm OK
But that's not what gets me
What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin' to do
It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I'm doin' It
It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone
Still Harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin' with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken
What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do
What hurts the most was being
So close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do
I'm saying that loving you
That's what I was tryin' to do

Cars and Telephones by the Arcade Fire are my favorite lyrics of the moment, especially the last part:
But fukc it
I love you even if
I'm gonna feel like s**t
By the time I get to you
Now the sky is turning blue
The stars they disappear
One by one as the daylights nears
And yes you're in my head
But that doesn't make you here
And I've lost all my friends
But you're the one I miss the most
And now I'm almost there
Yeah I'm almost to the coast
And if I had any notion
Of how I'm gonna drive my car across
the Atlantic Ocean,
I'd be fukcing set.
My all time fave lyrics are Isobel by Bjork and Yes, Anastasia by Tori Amos :)
