I have a 6 year old Maytag electric dryer. It stopped running in the middle of a load and will not start. The interior light is out (I tried a new one) and it worked before. The timer works - it will advance- but the dryer refuses to come on when it is pushed. I have checked the door switch as a potential source of the problem with a continuity tester and it appears OK. Not sure what to try next.

The switch you push to start it could be bad. Likely the switch does not start the dryer, itself, but activates a relay that operates the motor and relay. The relay could be bad. A wire could have burnt off, or vibrated loose. You need to start with the feed to the switch, and check everything between it and the motor. The motor could have died too.

Hello,

I have a similar problem. My dryer is taking 3 cycles to dry. I replaced the dryer w/ a another one which I know works and the same thing happens. I hired a company to come out and clean the vent to the dryer. Not sure what they did but it didn't work. It looks like all they did was vacum the vents. What could be the problem. I know the dryers work.

Thanks,
NT

Near the thermostat control in the back of the dryer is a thermal sensor device. When it burns out, it acts similar to a fuse and keeps the entire system down. Locate it, from your schematic that came with the dryer, and run an ohms check to see if there is continuity. If not, replace it and see what happens. The part is relatively inexpensive (about $8.00).

Late, late, late reply... but you might try checking your breakers in the breaker box. I had a big go-round with Sears (it was ugly) and eventually discovered that I had a bad breaker (there were two of them in series (220?) in the box - replaced them and every thing worked great). Less that year old dryer would turn but there was no heat (was getting 110 power, but needed 220). Local electrician was extremely helpful (and reasonable priced). Lesson learned.

Good point. Weird things happen when one leg of a 220 circuit is open. Really weird thing happen when one of the 2 main fuses blow.

Hi
I am an HVAC tech an having problems with my Frigidaire gas dyer M#GLGR331AS2, S#XD31100005. Here it goes, it runs for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then cycles off, the flame. When it goes to relite the HSI warms up and flame doesn't come on, I have to turn off and restart the whole machine to get it to run another 5 to 10 minutes and then same problem? I would be gratefull if one of the guy's could lend a hand, I just don't want to start changing parts,

Thanks
Tom
