You know as a plumber I would rather see you rip that old lead out and replace it with a new copper water line altogether... but with that said... ;)
I am assuming you are talking about joining lead water pipe to new copper water pipe....yes?
If so, need to purchase a LEAD-LOK fitting of appropriate size... see pic. Below. It has a compression sleeve fit on the copper and a compression fit on the lead (not threaded on like you would think by looking at the picture... instead those threads act as a stop to hold pipe into fitting).
And then click on this link to learn more:
Lead Lok Compression Fitting ½"×7lb 15mm - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys (http://www.screwfix.com/prods/85874/Plumbing/Brassware/Lead-Lok-Compression-Fitting-7lb-15mm)
It may be ordered or something similar to this should be available at your local plumbing supply house.
Let me know if need anything else... MARK
