I'm about to be given a 1986 Chevrolet Cavalier 5-speed and the people that currently own it says when it is put into reverse it makes a clunk noise, but once the clutch is let off and power is transmitted the noise goes away. They thought it was the half shaft boots, but Advance said if that was the case, the noise would be present no matter what gear it's put in. I personally think it's either the throw-out bearings, reverse-5th gear shift linkage, or the reverse gear itself in the transmission. What do you all think?

The throw out would make noise all the time until you step on the clutch. But how good is the clutch? If its worn it could do this. But I say the sinkrow is bad that's what puts the gears inline so it goes nice and smooth
