I live in South Florida and need to replace a Carrier heat pump. Don't know why I bought a heat pump 15 trs ago seeing as we run heat maybe 3 days a year. Anyway I will go with a straight cool w/ 10 KW heat strip now. I have a gable mounted package unit. I will probably go with local contractor who has been in business since 69 and offers 2 yr labor warranty. Choice between
1.Goodman 13 SEER with reciprocating compressor, R22, 10 years parts and compressor warr. 78 decibels
2. Rheem 13 SEER with Copeland scroll comp, R22, 5 yrs parts, 10 yrs comp. 76 decibels $320 more than Goodman
3. Rheem 14 SEER with Copeland scroll comp, R410, 5 yrs parts, 10 yrs comp, 76 decibels $660 more than Goodman, $340 more than option 2 Rheem
Contractor said Rheem compressor warr. Was 5 years but website says 10.
I can't decide recip comp vs scroll comp and R22 vs 410. Please help.

It is impossible to do prices here since material and labor differ around the country.
Buy the best you can afford.
Then get the best person to install it.
The brand is not as important as the person doing the install.

Both type of compressors work .

I agree with hcac1000 with all that was said. But to add check the warranty on the units you price out, its worth the extra bucks up front to get the ten years parts and labor warranty. It pays for its self with one weekend or holiday service call.
