How is a toilet flange anchored into a cement floor and drain pipe?
Is there an adhesive or sealer that is used around the O.D. of the flange bottom to seal it to the drain pipe? Is it set into mortar?

Hi Gistraub:

Usually the CAST IRON flange is set over the cast iron pipe and then it has oakum packed in between pipe and flange to allow about an inch of space for molten LEAD to be poured and fill the joint.

The lead is then packed with special leading irons to seal the joint.

Most homeowners today are using the TWIST AND SET flanges... ;) Here, the flange sets INSIDE the pipe instead of outside... see pic.

The flange is then ANCHORED to the cement using a 1/4" cement anchor kit.. see pic. (comes with drill bit).

Let me know what you think...
