Hi,
I have a Moen 7400 kitchen faucet with separate spray.
The faucet has started to leak water out of the bottom between the valve body and the
Deck plate where the grey contact split washer sits just above the deck plate.

Can anyone give me an idea why this is happening?
My guess would be that I either need a new cartridge or to replace the O-rings.

Many thanks,

Andy

Hey Andy:

Here is a link to an exploded view of your faucet/faucet parts:

http://www.moen.com/shared/pdf/7430pt.pdf

It should help you to disassemble and order the replacement orings for your faucet.

Moen is great faucet... just decide which parts are needed to fix faucet (see part numbers at the link) and then call 1800BUYMOEN.

MOEN will ship repair parts at NO CHARGE TO YOU within 10 business days... so if leak not to extreme call and order replacement parts.

You should also get some plumbers silicone grease and have that handy when you go to install the new parts... ;)

Let me know what you think or if you need more info... glad to help!

MARK

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your response... very fast!
I had already contacted Moen and they said they would send me a new cartridge, hopefully that will fix the problem. Do you think a faulty cartridge could make the faucet leak at the bottom like that?
Thanks again!

Hey Andy:

Did you check out the link I posted.. Takes a minute or so to load...

In fact I think it may be an oring causing your issue. Check out the link... it is your faucet in exploded view. Need to order the parts that make the most sense. Sounds like o ring issue.

But to be sure, I would remove the handle and then turn on the faucet and see if leaking under the handle. If not leaking under handle then most likely the ORING like I am thinking... check the link out.

Let me know what you think...

FYI...

It's most likely the Spout orings, not the cartridge. Cartridge is when the water doesn't shut off completely. They hardly ever go out... even after 10 years of Southern CA hardwater. Today I just fixed another Moen 7400, leaked at the base... again same problem, the orings to rub inside the spout. Look for the Spout O-Ring Kit. Mine is a 2005 model or so and the 2 orings are different size. Look at the diagrams, some orings same size. What I did was take apart, clean up with toothbrush and water, then dry and regrease with "silicone grease." home depot sells in the plumbing faucet repair parts section. Fixed it like a charm. I've fixed 2 this way in the last 2 months.

He asked the same question I was going to ask. Which was:
Does it leak all the time or just when you run it? If it leaked only when it was ran I would suspect the spout"O" rings. That would give you the same symptoms, Let us know if the cartridge fixed the problem. Good luck, Tom

I agree with all it is possible that spout O rings is the problem like Mark says open the link below and see all 3 faucets and see which one is yours get the P/N for the spout O ring kit and contact Moen to send you the kit, luck.
