I'm not sure which category this fits in, but here's the deal:

In Alaska we get a PFD near the end of each year (I won't explain the whole thing, that'd take too long.) In any case, the amount of money received depends on the price of oil. I received $1,606 (and some cents) for my dividend on October 4th.

I turned 18 on the 19th of that month.

About a month afterward, my mother approached me and asked if she could use my money. I told her no because she has a habit of not paying people back. She took it anyway and because that money was going to fund my moving out, I am now stuck here. Several months later I received my small inheritance from my grandfather totaling about $1,200. She took that as well without my permission once I had withdrawn it.

The amount she now owes me is $2800.

Is there something I can do? The money was going to be a first month's rent, and now I can't afford it. My mother tells me that I am ungrateful for asking to be paid back (even though she took it without my consent), and she has to intention/means to do so.

She refuses to be reasoned with. What can I do?

Did she forge your name in order to get her hands on the money?

I see no recourse but Small Claims Court - then it's your word against hers but her defense (you are ungrateful, she's your mother, you owe her because she's your mother) will get her nowhere.

If she intends to pay you back, let the Court help her pay you back faster.

Sad that it's come to this - wonder if someone in your family could try to mediate but it sounds like you might be beyond that.
