I have a 95 Thunderbird. My daughter and her boyfriend took my car to the carwash and decided to wash my engine. Every since then, 2 months ago it hasn't run right.

When you first crank it up it idles a little high and if you put it in gear and just coast for a second it is fine. If you start to actually drive somewhere though it revs up to about 2500 rpm from the start and if you slip it into neutral it will rev to 3000 rpms. Nothing will bring it back down except to stop and cut it off.

I have recently changed the water pump and the thermostat but that was after the problem started.

I am a single mom and I can't afford to keep buying stuff to try. I can do minor stuff, i.e. change my thermostat if I have a little direction.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have had several people tell me to try changing the throttle position sensor but I want to make sure first.

High RPMs are usually the result of a vacuum leak or a bad Idle Air Control valve. My guess is you're getting poor gas mileage too. Look for a vacuum line that got knocked off or broken during the "engine wash."

Thank you. I look for a vacuum leak and didn't see one. I will take a better look tomorrow after work and check back in. Thank you.
