Our Kitchen Sink will not drain. First we tried baking soda and vinegar, didn't do much. We also tried Liquid Plumber - that did a little. After we tried some stuff that was also in a plastic bag and very strong but it is safe for septic systems. This really bubbled up and worked a little, at least the water went down a little, but if you run the water in the sink it would come back up and also go into the other sink. This is a double sink. My son last night took the pipes apart and there is no clog in the pipes under the sink, it seems to be in the pipe going down to the basement which goes down sideways. What shoud we do now and is there any way of unclogging this sink? I am going to buy a snake from Home Depot today and see if that will work - is this the right move? Please let me know ASAP. Thank you very much. sunshinejb01

A snake is the right approach for now. By the way, you missed an ingredient, its 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup table salt and one cup vinegar allowed to soak over night. I don't think it would help since your clog is further downstream. You will hit a 90 elbo just inside the wall so I doubt that you can get a 1/2" snake in there, try a 1/4" snake.

Thank you very much. Sunshinejb01 As Bob suggested, purchase a 1/4" hand snake. Remove the"J" bend and send a snake up into the wall,(see image)Once past the elbo in the wall you only have 5 more feet to go. Flush with a tub of hot water. Good luck, Tomj
