I found these holes in my yard and was wondering if anyone could tell me what made them? The biggest ones are about the size of my pinky, some are smaller, but not much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There shold be a picture if I did this right.

Thanks, Mike

They are probably worm holes if there are little balls of earth around the entrance. Your pic didn't show.

Hard to tell for sure but do you ever see grounds wasps in your area? I think you have an underground nest and would stay clear until you can get a can of hornet killer, use it after sunset only.

I'm pretty sure there's no hornets in there. I was digging In that area and saw the holes. Figure the wouldn't take to kindly to me digging up their nest. Thanks for the answer though.

Is that image the picture of the only holes that are in your yard? Are those pebbles of something else around the holes? Where are you located? Your location may be a key factor in determining what had made the holes. Thanks!

Wow. Never seen such things before. Be sure it is not some bad joke from someone.

I have similar holes in my backyard, those holes are in the front yard flower bed. The stuff around the holes is just old mulch and leaves and what not from the trees in the yard. I am in Cincinnati Ohio area (northern suburbs). I only notice them where there is no grass, but I am not exactly down on my knees in the yard looking for them either.

A couple of links that might give you some answers! The first shows a hole similar to those you posted.

Ithey look similar to my holes... do they have a definite bottom to hole? If not and they seem to go deep... could they be a mole hole?

A ground bee hole is about the size of a pencil at best. Any hole larger than that probably is not a bee or hornet. The holes for hornets go down several inches and then enter a cavern that can be the size of a baseball or even a basketball,
