View Full Version : Bathroom back-up

When my washing machine drained last night, the tubs, toilets and sinks in both of my bathrooms backed up. I managed to pull a fist sized clump of hair out of the tub drain, and plunged the toilets, but they are still slow to drain and I'm afraid to take a shower or do more laundry. My septic tank shouldn't need pumping, its only been in for a year. What's wrong, what do I do? I have no one around to ask for help, it's just me and my little ones!

It is not the washer drain that is clogged, the main is clogged and the washer pumps a large volume that backs up the entire house. Its pretty clear that the washer drain is working quite well, the rest of the house is in trouble until you clear the main all the way to the tank. I would not be 100% sure your tank is fine just because it was pumped a year ago. If you can access the lid take a look to see the level in the tank. It should not be full to the lid.

Bob's bang on! The septic tank inspection port needs to be opened and the tank level checked. How long it's been installed doesn't make any difference if the drain field's saturated and can't percolate the liquid the tank sends it.
You have two inspection porfts,(lids) located at either end of the septic tank. Good luck, Tom
