I have a Trane heat pump with the air handler in the attic. We attempted to change the thermostat from a GE to a Honeywell. I have received confirmation from a specialist that we have wired everything properly.

We cannot, however, get the heat pump to engage (or do anything, for that matter). We flipped the circuit breakers at both the air handler and the heat pump, as well as the main board. Everyone keeps telling us to look for a fuse, or to test voltage on wires from the heat pump itself. I have a meter, but I can't get to/locate wires from the heat pump.

We have no a/c and the temp keeps creeping up outside. Help??

Thanks

If you did not turn the power off first going to the air handler you may have blown a low voltage fuse when you replaced the thermostat. If nothing is working heat, air, blower, Its time to call a tech that can check it out for you if you cant. If it was working before you changed out the T-stat and not now, I would say the secondary fuse is blown. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but s#!t happens not knowing what your doing with out asking questions first. Good luck.

If you did not cut the power to the indoor unit before you changed the stat you most likley have a blown fuse in the indoor unit. The fuse looks like a small fuse that you may have seen in your car (a 3 or 5 amp) and is located around the board in the indoor unit. If after changing this fuse it pops again you most likely have a short in the wire or you wired the stat incorrectly.
