I hope this message finds your dog feeling better. My best advice is to seek a second opinion. A simple x-ray should show any obstruction if there is one. Second, I have never heard of any doctor wanting to put a dog out for surgery while in kidney failure. Just like people doctors, there are some very good doctors that truly care for pets and there are others that care more about how much they can get you to spend.

Thanks for answering my post. It was pretty touch and go with her last night but we made it through. She is better today but still not herself. I took her to my vet who was outraged that she did not receive proper treatment, from a member of his own staff! X-rays showed no obstruction but it doesn't mean there isn't anything there. She is hooked up to fluids right now and they are running tests, so keep your fingers crossed.

Hang in there, I know it is tough. How old is she? If she is older, make sure they check her sugar level. Like people, dogs can become diabetic as they get older. A sign of this is now feeling well and acting sick. Also if she is well house trained and out of the blue she is pottying in the house, big sign of a sugar problem.

Also, believe it or not, dogs can catch colds from us. If someone is our house has been sick with an upper respiratory infection, let your vet know.

She is 11 years old and until a few days ago still acted like a pup. Whatever is wrong with her came on very quickly. All of a sudden she can't go down the stairs or hop up on her favorite chair. She stopped eating and drinking, wouldn't go outside and didn't react to anything. Very alarming. I hope when I go to see her tomorrow she will be back to her happy self and I can bring her home. This sounds like a pinched nerve in her back. Remember, dogs get the same aging problems that we people do. Bring this up to the Dr. Ask about trying anti-inflammatory meds. My Mutzi (pronouned Mootzi) is on a daily pill for arthritics in her hips and it has made a hugh difference. She is now 15 years old, one year past her life expectancy. My beloved Peaches who has now passed on (she was very old) thrown her back out once and meds put her back to her little pampered self. Write all of these things down so you don't forget to ask when you get to the Dr. There is nothing wrong in taking control and to help as much as you can. After all, you know your dog the best.

I brought my dog home today and she has lost a bit of weight but she is almost back to being herself. Absolutely none of the tests showed anything wrong with her at all! The vet is a bit stumped and wanted to run more tests. He even wondered if it had something to do with her dog food. It could be possible as I almost lost my cat to store bought food a few years back. Your suggestion about a pinched nerve in her back also would explain a lot. You are welcome! I am glad they did not find anything seriously wrong with her and the weight will come back on. I bet she was missing her Mom and didn't eat well while staying at the vet's. It is hard when our dogs get older and start showing signs of it.

If you feel she is in pain due to muscle aches and pains, you can give her baby aspirin. Remember, those were the little orange aspirin our mother's gave us when we were kids. It works great and is very safe for dogs. Absolutely NO Motrin, Advil, or Tylenol, because a dog's system can't process it correctly. Only baby asprin. I have always kept a bottle of baby aspirin in the house just for my girls and it works great if they get a little sore after our walks.
