We filed a Chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2005 in Oregon. We moved to Washington in 2007. We sold our house in Oregon. There were two mortgages and it was necessary to do a short sale on the second one. I am thinking about going to work and want to know the pros and cons of a Chapter 13 buyout. If we used my income to pay off our debts would that help our credit?

I think you need the advice of a bankruptcy Attorney before you do anything - I know you are hoping someone here can give you guidance but only an Attorney knows about Homestead - and other pertinent - laws in both States and your full financial picture.

First at this point you should be almost done with the chapter 13, since most only last 3 years, so you are just most likely "months" from it being over.

And you have already filed, and if it is determined you can pay more, you may have to have the payments reconsidered and just pay more.

It will not hurt to talk to your bankrutpcy attorney but I would just let it go and let it pay out
