My daughter has gotten it into her head that she can go abroad for a high school semester. She's a great kid, does really well in school. But I don't think there are many study abroad programs for high schoolers. It might be a great experience for her, but then again, she's still a kid in my book. Has anyone done this sort of thing for their 16/17 year old?

It happens fairly frequently, and there are groups that do nothing but arrange such study. Sometimes it involves basically traiding families with someone in another nation, and many other programs
I do not recomeend any program and not familiar with any one company but know of the type of programs

There are soooooooooo many study abroad places for highschoolers. I was going to do it but it costs too much. Have her go to her school counsellor and they will get u some sites.

I was an exchange student to Denmark when I was 16... it was very rewarding and a wonderful experience. My sister went to Switzerland at the same age. We both went through Youth For Understanding. As was said, there are several good organizations for just this experience. You can have the choice of a semester or a full year from a large number of countries. My daughter recently spent a semester in England during her Junior year. I highly recommend it!
