Due to having a dog, I would like to replace my carpet that is on a slab with a laminate wood floor. I understand that laminate has a pinging sound to it when it is walked on. Any advice wuld be appreciated.

Even high end laminate will sound pretty tappy with a dogs nails. You might look into engineered wood flooring with a long guarantee. Engineered Hardwood Flooring Burgundy Maple (http://flooring.builddirect.com/Engineered-Hardwood-Floors/vanier-wood-floors-Burgundy-Maple/ProductDisplay_8804_C2_10000512.aspx?utm_id=3&cpao=127&cpag=All+Product+Lines&CAWELAID=46451654)

You can eliminate a lot of the ping sound with a good underlayment and a thicker quality laminate . The biggest compliant with laminate is the sound but a lot of customers don't know or are not told about upgrading underlayment maybe because of the cost, a good under layment can cost as much as $0.60 a square foot witch is about as much as the box store customers want to pay for the laminate product it self.. a good middle grade laminate will cost about 4.00 to 5.00 a square foot... engineered hardwood will eliminate almost all of your tappy sound and is better looking but I believe the dogs nails will tear up the surface (depending on size, weight, activeness) and normally engineered can not be refinished the veneer surface is to thin. I would go with a good laminate and a good underlayment less wear and tear ,easy to take care of
