Can you tell me what I would get my Master's in to become and Academic Advisor? What are the requirements to hold this position in New York State?

The field requires a Master's degree in counseling. For advising at the college level, I'd suggest finding a program that provides a concentration in career counseling; at the high school level, I'd look for a program in school counseling & guidance. You might want to consider joining the National Academic Advisors Association (http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/index.htm), and perhaps the NCDA (http://www.ncda.org/), the national association for career counselors. The only Master's degree specifically for advising that I'm aware of is at Kansas State University; see the Resources link at the NACADA site. As far as NY state goes, there's no specific licensure for academic advising; I would assume you'd obtain the same licensure as anyone else in a counseling field in that state.
