I have a Craftsman lawn tractor Mod. 917-275684. 24hp 42". When I try to start it,the starter turns but does not engage the flywheel. I have a new battery, starter, and solenoid.Please advise.

Hello. Well, I just put a new starter on my 20hp B&S. The littlegear is supposed to pop up when the starter spins and engage the teeth on the flywheel. Try spraying a little WD40 on the shaft and see if the little gear pops up. Otherwise, the gear is really stuck on the shaft and you might have to exchange the starter as defective.

The little gear not poping up is not the problem. I have the same problem with one of my mowers at home and some of the teeth on the flywheel are gone so it did not engage with the flywheel. To check if this is the problem I believe there are 1/2" bolts on the cover that covers the flywheel so no one gets hurt take that off and look at the flywheels teeth
