I am replacing the piping at the shower stall. The existing pipes say CPVC and Ihave a can of glue that reads PVC. Should Ibuy another or can I use this?

Oatey has a one step glue for cpvc use . In fact that's what it is called, one step glue . Only one can. ( no need for primer and glue both ) It comes in in a bright yellow can, 1/2 pt. size. It also sets up rather quickly. Hope this helps.

PVC PRIMER & GLUE MADE ME SICK - USED IN HOT "CPVC" PIPE IN SHOWER,
A friend installed CPVC with regular PVC GLUE AND PRIMER, The FIRST shower I took left me COUGHING and my eyes were BURNING for several days. I thought THE GLUE/PRIMER may have not fully CURED/DRIED. Soooooo, just when my RED eyes were clearing up, (but the COUGHING had NOT ceased, I took another shower, and it STARTED UP AGAIN!! I don't think this is a coincidence!!

You NEVER use PVC glue for CPVC pipe. Your choices should be either Flow Guard Gold (which includes primer), or Orange CPVC cement and Purple Primer. While all-purpose, or mulit-purpose cement works, it does not meet codes.

Read the instructions on the cans in the store.
