I am replacing the guts of a 30+ year old Crane toilet that is in otherwise great shape. The threaded center part that goes through the center of the tank, through the gasket, and into the bowl assembly appears to be about 2 1/8 - 2 1/4" wide. All the assemblies that are sold at Home Depot or Lowes are about 2 3/8" wide and will not fit, even though they are "universal." Any ideas as to where where I can get the correct part? Is Crane the only one that has this odd-ball size. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

For a toilet that old you may have to hit a plumbing supply store in your area. I run into the part problems with HD and Lowe's in my area as well. They are fine for most things but if your looking for an older replacement part particularly if it needs to be an exact replacement often times your out of luck at the box stores. Just curious why not change out the toilet for a newer , more efficient design. As far as whether crane is the only one Im not sure for most people if they have a toilet that old they just have me replace it rather than repair, Unless its something simple. Anyway try a plumbing store and see if they can't fix you up. GOOD LUCK, AC
