Hi, our dog Dixie just started to not use her back left leg to support her. She uses anything that can support her to keep her upright. It's very heart breaking to see her like this. She is part Chow & Border Collie. She is a old dog, had her for 10 years. She got hit by a hit-and-run driver about 6 years ago & I think the injury has caught up with her. I'm planning to get her looked at soon. How can I make her feel better?
Thanks for your help. :(

All I can say is get her to your vet as soon as you can. It may be arthritis setting in, and she may also need bone density tests to determine the extent of her problem. It sounds like she is clearly in pain, if she is using other things to support her when she is walking, or trying to stand up :(

Your vet is probably the only person that can tell you exactly what to do to keep her comfortable. Just try and give her all of your loving care and give her as much help as you can with getting up and supporting her leg. Maybe a tensor bandage might help until you get her to the vet, (just a suggestion, not medical advice) but I would get her there very soon, so your vet can give his/her evaluation on her condition.

Good luck to you and Dixie, and hope everything goes well! :)
