My husband and myself are thinking of going to the US. My father is portugeuse and my mother south african. Is it possible for me to get a portugeuse passport. And if I can how do I go about doing it?

I assume that you have South Africa passport..
If you were born in South Africa, and your father reported your birth to the nearest Portuguese Embassy, you will be able to obtain Portuguese citizenship BUT if your father failed to do so and you are now over 18 years old... it's over.
Nothing wrong with South African Passport, you can contact the nearest US embassy for visa information.

Yes, you can obtain the Portuguese citizenship because you are daughter of a Portuguese citizen. The fact that he has not registered your birth will not interfere on your application.
First you have to register the marriage of your parents in Portugal (if it is not registered) and then you can apply for the native Portuguese citizenship at the CRCs (Portuguese Civil Register Office) or at the nearest Portuguese Consulate.
