I am installing a new basement and want to install piping in the slab in case I decide to use under floor heating later.
1) Can I use the normal water supply type 1/2" PEX?
2) Is there ideal layout because this stuff is fairly stiff to allow tight bends?
Thanks Phil

NO! Pex makes a "pex" tubing that is designed for in floor heating. I believe it is called "he-pex which has an oxygen barrier.

Sorry I only answered half of your questions. Typically you would run it with 6" centers either in a serpentine or a looped pattern. I'm not smart enough to get you diagrams and post them for you to see what I mean. PEX must have a web site that could help.
