View Full Version : Good Excuses!

When giving a piano lesson yesterday, my student came up with this for an excuse for repeating the mistake that he had made, even though I had already demonstrated to him what the mistake had been and how he should correct it. "I am duplicating my mistake so that I know what I did wrong."
I thought that it to be funny enough that I wrote it down.
A number of years ago, a student told me in a classroom that "I can't sing because my finger hurts!"
Anybody else got any zinger excuses that people have given to you or that you have heard that have been given?

From a girl who stood me up:
So sorry I couldn't make it... I ate a peanut.
... it all made sense when she explained she has nut allergies... but at the moment, initial reaction: What... a... bozo.

I read one time that habitual mistakes (like I type th instead of ht all the time) can be overcome by typing it the wrong way repetitively. This is supposed to drive home to the brain that the wrong combination is being typed. I never really tried it but I might because I still can't get it rigth.

On being asked to do something, an aged and frail mostly bed-ridden relative said "...sorry, I'm flat out trying to stay alive."

An elderly neighbor's reply to salespeople who call her on the phone is, "I'm old and near death!" I love it!

I get calls from telemarketers and do the whole
"well... are you interested in coming to my garage sale this weekend and signing a lock in contract to buy my lawn mower? no? then we have no reason to talk anymore" *hangs up*
