I have a jammed pencil in a low flush toilet. If I use a toilet auger and dislodge the pencil, will it only jam farther down? And where? Should I take the toilet out and remove the jammed object (what is the best technique?) or auger the toilet first and possibly risk a more expensive clog outside the house?

Hey HM... first thing I would do is glove up and fish around the inside of that toilet bowl up near back area (use compact mirror and flashlight to look up inside)... maybe use a bent coat hanger to try and see if I could pull the pencil back.
If that doesn't work, you could go with the closet auger, but I think it will just keep slipping by the pencil and will be ineffective... AND may break into 2 or more pieces that can fall further down drain and cause issues later
Therefore, I would probably lift the toilet and be done with this once and for all!!. Basically, lift toilet, set down on soft dropcloth and reach in from under and see if can reach it from there. May need to use the auger to persuade the pencil toward bottom... but at least pieces will not fall down drain.
Then re-set toilet with new wax gasket and johnni bolts, test and hopefully all set.
That is my approach... hope it helps some.
Let us know how you make out... good luck... Mark
